Application for Texas License problem

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey guys,

I am a Registered Nurse from the state of Arkansas and have recently applied for a Texas RN License, but have hit a bump in the road.

I was recently on probation for unprofessional conduct and was released from my probation in March! :)

My "bump in the road" was when my application went to the initial reviewer and was sent to the investigator and was told it could take 3-6 months for my Texas temp license to be processed! Even after providing documentation of completion of my probation, recent drug screen results, and completion of mandatory outpatient treatment program.

Has anybody else ran into this situation and if you have, how long did it take for you to receive your temporary permit?

Thanks!

There's a good chance that the Texas BON might issue you an order to participate in a program called TPAPN (Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses) due to a history of addiction or substance abuse in the past, even if you are fully recovered today. I know of someone who received a DWI in 1991 and was placed on TPAPN in 2007 after trying to get a license in Texas.

If you receive an order to participate in TPAPN, you will encounter extreme difficulty in finding a job because many employers do not wish to deal with the restrictions imposed by a TPAPN order. It might take several months, and several hundred more dollars, before you receive a temporary TX license.
