12 hr triage......what to do

Specialties Triage

Published

I just accepted a full time telephone triage position in a very busy call center. Orientation is next week. My concern is the twelve hour shifts I will be working.

Would like feedback regarding how "ok" or how "horrible" 12 hours would be.

Thanks:)

I work 12 hr shifts for a pedi call center in Tx. We are fairly steady/busy most evenings and than things tend to settle down around 12MN. The time goes fairly fast during the 12 hr shifts. I prefer the 12 hr shifts so that I can have more days off per week. For me, it is a good fit! It helps that you can get up and stretch periodically for a minute or two. Still, it is a lot less hectic and tiring that a 12 hr floor nurse position would be.

i work 10a-10p in a busy advice/paging/referral office. the time flies but i never feel rushed to finish documentation - the day takes on it's own rhythm and i get to enjoy the quiet spots. some days are okay, a few are kind of horrible, but every day has it's own little rewards. my favorite part is having the time to follow-through on my patients. often i will speak to a mom several times in one day if she has a sick child but doesn't need an er visit. it's wonderful when they call to tell you the temp is finally normal!

peace
