MTI TABE test and TEAS test for LPN program acceptance

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Hey there.. I am getting ready to take my *first* attempt at the TABE test next wednesday.. I have been out of school since 2002 :nailbiting: I have to score 11's across the board to even be able to apply at MTI. I have been doing some online testing which has been ok but I am extremely nervous and anxious. Any recent TABE test takers have any advice??

Also, after I *hopefully* score my 11's and am able to apply I then have to take the TEAS entrance exam to get into the program... I hear it is much harder than the TABE I am ordering the ATI TEAS study guide. I have until March 2015 to study so that I am *not so much* worried about, still concerned though. Any recent takers as well? I searched tabe and teas 2014 and got old posts so I was looking for recent ( 6-12 months ago) test takers input.

Super excited about finally fulfilling my dream of being a nurse.. even if it is 12 yrs later than expected... TIA!!!!

Hi, I just took the TABE test this past August for the second time and passed this time. Let me give you some pointers. The first time I took the TABE test i did not study. I urge you to study and brush up on the subjects math, grammar, reading comprehension and spelling. The TABE test is timed so practice timing yourself. The first time I took the tabe test I did not purchase the study guide. This time I did, but I still did not use it as much. I just used the study guide as an outline of what to focus on. What I did that helped A LOT was learning test strategies on how to take multiple choice tests. Process of elimination, trigger words to avoid (always, only, etc), I honestly feel like that is what helped the most for me to pass in addition to practicing heavy on timing myself. Also, know your strengths and weaknesses. Focus on the subject that you may need more study time. You will do great. Stay positive and breathe :)

Thank you! Timing myself... I did not even think of this! I am mostly worried about math... I have been doing online tests like crazy.. I will now TIME myself while taking them.. is it a 90 min test?

Yes, its just about a 90 minute test and they gave me a break in between. Timing yourself will get you mentally prepared so you do not freeze up when you're taking the actual test.To get really good at math problems on the test is to do A LOT of similar practice problems over and over again. Search for tabe math problems and practice solving the problems in a timely manner over and over. Wish you the best!

Thanks.. its very stressful as I haven't taken a test of any kind in 12 yrs. And I NEED to pass it the first time so I can apply .. MTI only takes the top 24... 50% of TABE and 50% of TEAS scores and the top 24 of that... I only have one shot for both.... is scoring 11's unreasonable or am I shooting to high the first time? Stupid fractions get me everytime.

Practice is KEY and maybe look into a hiring a tutor if you feel you may need extra help. I graduated high school n 2003 so we are not too far apart. You can do this! :)

I passed with 12.9+ in math and language and a darn 11.1 in reading... reading was my first section and i had horrible test anxiety. Now I just got my TEAS book and I have 4 months to study away and ace this test so I can apply!

Congratulations @mommahutson. You are on your way! :)

I just finished taking the TABE for my school and if your taking level A ( which I think is a must for nursing) it mainly has decimals, fractions, percents, and word problems. Pretty much the key thing Is to know how to multiply, divide, add, and subtract fractions, know how to change a decimal to a percents, if I can remember they ask stuff like what is 2% of 300. Now I also have to study for the Teas ? I hope this helped somewhat, I got a 11.1 btw. ? you'll do fine because in the middle of the test I felt like giving up and started doing a little guessing when I got to the word problems because they were annoying but come to find out I made it!
