I was told quite bluntly that my supervisor will not write a recommendation letter for CRNA school until I have finished 1.5 year on the unit. I was a bit suprised but not totally stunned.

7 of the 8 schools where I applied do not require a supervisor's recommendation. The last one does. I was thinking about getting a letter of recommendation from a night supervisor on the unit instead of the unit director.

I've already gotten recommendation letters from the past president of the AANA (American Association of Nurse Anesthetists....Thanks Jan!), a NP that I've known for years and two of my former nursing school professors and the dean of my nursing school. My letters look fantastic. I would just like to get one from my employer for the last school. What do you guys think about getting one from somebody else besides the unit director?

You seem to have more than enough recommendations. What I would suggest is exactly what you are asking. I think you should not worry about getting a recommendation from the unit director. You can get one from a head nurse or supervisor, etc. I think that would be fine. Actually, I think a recommendation from a head nurse or supervisor would be better due to the fact that he/she works with you and knows you better (most likely).
