Suggestions on getting through school with kids.

I know that there are many great posts on being able to get through school with kids but I was wondering what all of you did to make it a little easier on your family with you being away so much. After all of the studying/preparing do you have time to take them to the movies or the park or do homework with them, etc? What types of things did you do to make memories with them so they don't resent you going to CRNA school. Mine are old enough that they will remember.

Front loaded program-

Didactic- I make every possible sunday "family day"- Ice skating, football, church, etc.

Clinical- unfortunately, I will most likely be absent for the better part of the next year and a half.

Use the time you have now to prep them, and take the kiddos on vacation if at all possible- Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. If you have any friends/family that are military and have been on extended deployment, see what coping skills they used.

Perhaps I'm preaching to the choir, if you will, however, I honestly believe your children will remember your love, committment, and attention to them- irregardless of your involvement in continuing education.

What makes you whole is fullfilling your goals, etc... and in turn solidifies the individual. That happy, satisfied individual then turns around and offers her children the quality (not QUANTITY) care they deserve.

You are setting an AMAZING, PRICELESS example for them and that it itself will be reflected in them as they grow into adults themselves.

You are doing great- and children are resilient! This time will pass and while it was a touch rough on the heart, it keeps on beating even stronger than before.

Thank you so much!! That was just the encouragement that I needed! I take it even more to heart knowing that you are in pediatrics. I think we sometimes beat ourselves up wondering if we are doing the right things for our children because we love them so much and want to give them the best life possible, so thank you. I really appreciate your insight.
