Any SRNA's that go to the U here. Looking for info on how the program is, the course load, etc. I'll be starting in the Fall 2009 and just wanting any information about the program you have. I've emailed the coordinator a few times but have gotten no response at all. Would love to know how much you are studying and any tips you have for making it through the first semester.

Hi, I'm in the FNP program at U of M in Florida (not Miami University which I think is in Ohio )I think this is the school you are referring to? Fall 08 was my first semester. Two of my courses overlapped w/ the CRNA students. Advanced pharm and Advanced patho. I believe they also took neuropathophys and some other course. From the two that overlapped w/ my program I will give you some advice. Study your advanced pathophys and advanced pharm and know these very well! Good Luck!

Good Luck!

Hey giberga thanks for replying. Just wondering if you could give me anymore details on those two classes. Also I didn't notice they had a chemistry course, do they go over any of the organic chem stuff during pharm or what?

Organic chem is part of everything.....It is reviewed in relation to Pharm or a particular pathology in the two classes we had in common. The patho class is all inclusive- everybody system is included, hardcore -several hundreds pages of reading weekly, but doable.

Pharm is more in depth than your basic nursing pharm, but does not include in-depth anesthetic and drip drug,s as that is in the

2nd semester. CRNA students have no clinical during the first semester, so it is only juggling classes.

Just in case: Porth, CM. (2005). Pathophysiology. Concepts of Altered Health States (7th ed.). Philadelphia: Lippincot

Williams & Wilkins.-This was also the Boot Camp text that was used last summer

Just curious if you could tell me the books they used for the advanced pharm and advanced patho? Also do they go into much physiology about the systems or is it mostly just patho? Thanks for your quick responses.

The patho book is the one I previously mentioned in this thread . During the boot camp in the summer, mostly physiology is reviewed. In the class, mostly patho is reviewed, but tests may include a bit of physiology here and there....

Here is the pharm text: Gutierrez, K. (2007). Pharmacotherapeutics: Clinical reasoning in primary care 2nd ed. Saunders: Philadelphia. Like I mentioned before I have no way of knowing if they will be used again.....

Good Luck!

I started in fall of 2008. first semester is light...2nd semester hits you hard and it's time to hang on for dear life until graduation. you'll enjoy it though. if you want to know any concrete details, PM me.
