Interviewing at Wake Forest and RSNA

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Greetings all,

So I have interviews at Wake Forest and RSNA. I live in Nashville, TN, and know absolutely nothing about either of these schools. Now, why would anyone apply to a school they know nothing about, you might ask. Well, the short answer is that my wife was offered a job opportunity in Chapel Hill that was too good to pass up. So now I am faced with these interviews and would like any info/advice that anyone who is familiar with either of these programs could provide me. Specifically, I was wondering if there is any clinical component to the interview process. In other words, am I going to be asked to explain the mechanism of action for levophed or what would be appropriate vent settings for a patient with ARDS or anything of that nature. Other information and/or advice is also appreciated. Thank you, and good luck to everyone as they wait to hear about interviews and as they head out on the interview trail.

Hello there! Both schools are wonderful. My number one choice is wake forest. They ask you non clinical questions such as, why do you want to be a crna...what was the most difficult patient you've ever taken care of...etc. Raleigh asks you clinical questions depending on your specialty. For example, if you are a neuro nurse, then you might get questions on ICP, different gtts, CVA, seizure pts, etc.

I'm just curious...what are your stats? I am not applying this year but I would like to know what experience you have, GRE score, GPA, you know...the usual stats. Thanks!

My stats are BS in biology, GPA 3.2, BSN, GPA 3.7, Nursing Prereq's 4.0, GRE 1200, CCRN, 2 Years critical care experience in the MICU at Vanderbilt, PALS, ACLS, Rapid Response Team, Procedure/Help-All Nurse on our unit and backup charge RN. I think that's about it. Prior to going back to nursing school, I was an autopsy assistant and surgical pathology technician for about 6 years.

When is your interview? I am also applying to those two schools but haven't turned in my application yet as I am waiting for one of my references to return them to me. It is driving me crazy! :banghead: Now I am nervous that they are already offering interviews. Good luck!

I interviewed at both Wake and RSNA last year and was accepted to both. They are both so similar in structure (sister programs through UNCG) that it was difficult to decide. I ended up at RSNA because I like the city better, they get more time off, and it was a little more laid back. I do think that Wake is a little over rated and RSNA is right behind them in national rankings. Good luck

That's great! What were your interviews like? Being from Tennessee, I don't know a lot about the programs, except what I've read on their websites, and what Ive gleaned from this message board. Is there a great deal of emphasis placed on clinical questions? Also, if you don't mind, what were your stats like (GPA, GRE, experience, etc)? Since my wife is going to be working at the med center in Chapel Hill, I am more interested in Raleigh mainly because of proximity, so that's good to hear that you liked Raleigh better overall. Thanks for the reply, and good luck to you as the academic year chugs along.

After going through the interview process I have found that very little emphasis is placed on your GRE and GPA. If you are getting an interview they have already decided that you are a good enough learner to be a part of their program, now it is to see if you present yourself well in person as opposed to on paper. My stats were ok. My GPA overall is 3.4, my nursing GPA was 3.7, my GRE was 1160. I have 2 years ICU. I worked in a large general we did trauma, med/surg, ccu, cticu, neuro. I also have a year of high acuity peds. Good luck, just present yourself well. The clinical question is not hard, they asked my the receptor activity of norepi.

How is RSNA? i HAVE AN INTERVIEW nOV 16, 2011 FOR THE FALL 2012 CLASS. Do you like it there, and are you glad you chose it? I am also coming from nashville, tn!

Thanks!
