Very few direct entry FNP programs?

Nursing Students NP Students

I have been searching for direct entry FNP programs. My bachelor's degree is in Economics, but I have completed the necessary prerequisites for PA/NP programs. I am having trouble finding these programs, especially on the West Coast. Few offer direct entry at all, and most of those seem to be offering direct entry clinical nurse leader or other instead of FNP.

Does anyone know where I can find an up to date listing of Direct Entry FNP programs?

Hey, I'm kind of in the same boat as you are. There are several programs like that here in philly, but I've been advised to do an accelerated BSN, gain 1-2 yrs experience as an RN and then pursue a master's. I know that takes longer and you probably don't want to do that (neither do I, really!), but it will benefit your clinical abilities and knowledge. The accelerated program I got into is only 14 months long (avg is 18-24, I think), but it is aimed at mostly students with a science background.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

You may find it easier to obtain a BSN and get work experience first in order to enter into NP school. The main idea behind nurse practitioner is that the nurse practitioner has experience that they can reference to and helps guide their practice. PAs, on the other hand, mostly have healthcare experience such as CNA or EMT prior to entry into their program and have bachelor's in various fields. If you wanted a more direct-entry, I suggest going the PA route. There are multiple websites that can assist you to apply to direct-entry programs for nurse practitioner should you choose to go that route, just simply search on Google.

Seattle U offers one on the west coast - the APNI program.
