Hi,

I recently applied for the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Maryville University and am waiting to hear if I am accepted. Is anyone else waiting to hear back from Maryville also?

I have seen threads on this school, but they are a little older. Is anyone currently in this program? If so, how are you liking it?

Hope to hear from some of you! :)

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I am still waiting on my welcome packet. Has anyone else received theirs?

Specializes in ICU.

I decided at the last minute to pass on Maryville. I was accepted into Vanderbilt, Maryville and Troy . I picked Troy in Alabama. The length of the program was the same except for a post master's it was 26K and Troy is 16K. Good Luck everyone. :)

Specializes in critical care.

How many weeks did you wait for acceptance?

I will be starting in Fall 2014. I had my welcome webinar last night. I am a nervous excited but ready to get started. Good luck to all.

Gin820,

I have been accepted to Maryville. I start Aug 25, 2014. I have not watched my welcome Webinar yet. I hope to get this scheduled for next Wednesday. I see you are from Ohio. I actually live in Indiana, but work in Ohio. I understand Maryville has many group projects. Maybe we could partner up for these! I am familiar with online programs as I did my RN to BSN with Indiana Wesleyan (which has an 18 month waiting list for the RN FNP program).

Best of luck to you and anyone else accepted to the program.

Where do you work in Ohio? I'm about 2 hours from Cinncinnati. It would be nice to have a classmate fairly close. I am excited to get started in a few weeks!

Gin820,

I work in Hamilton, Ohio.

Did you get any confirmation via snail mail of your acceptance? I was notified via email and telephone, but expected some sort of welcome packet in the mail. My advisor has not called yet to schedule my initial webinar. So, I currently feel lost a to the best method to order books, and where to begin.

I'm sure things will be fine once I become accustomed to the process. Good luck. I agree, it would be nice to have someone close to bounce ideas, concerns off of once I begin the program.

I didn't get anything in the mail. I had hoped we would. I would call your advisor to check on the webinar. You probably should have had one by now. Also ask about your welcome packet. That will give you more info.

I was just accepted for the August 25 start date! My webinar is scheduled for August 18th. I am looking forward to finding more people with the same start date.

You'll be assigned to a class, and within that class, assigned to your group team for a particular course. Likely the first one will be Evidence Based Practice. I loved that course! I did not particularly care for my three team mates, since they were essentially illiterate (educated in the US, too). You may have to do what I did: choose to not look at the assignment submitted which will bear your name or write/rewrite the whole thing yourself.

The professor I had for that course was amazing. She provided an email address and her phone number. She was available, not just for technical questions for assignments, but also for angst. I was very worried about the effect my teammates' ineptitude would have on my grade (I am Sigma Theta Tau, Phi Beta Kappa and a couple of others--and very particular about excellence). She said a) she could tell the difference between my writing and theirs and not to worry and b) that her job was not to punish me/us but to nurture us to excellence, a la Benner. If the other profs are like her, there should be zero problem!

But you won't get to pick your colleagues.... :(

You got my attention and even though I was accepted at Maryville, I'm looking at Troy. The cost difference alone (assuming it won't take me an extra year or something like that) is reason enough. Might see you there.... Thanks for the post. :)

Can anyone who is currently attending Maryville University online for the FNP program, provide me some information regarding the program. Do the instructors lecture or present power points, or is it all self educating via medical books? Do they charge extra charges every semester, besides tuition fee? Can you work full time, when you begin clinicals? Are there many papers to write and do you have to attend a test facility or can you take exams out of home?

Thank you,

Kooky
