Foreign BSN, Ca MSN need help

Hello,

i am Peach and I have been a nurse in CA for almost 8 years. I have my CA RN license but I did my BSN in the Phlippines. I am finishing up my MSN-FNP program this December from a regionally accredited school in CA? I am inquiring about the licensure/certification process as a FNP. I am wondering if I would have a problem applying for my FNP license/ certificate from AANP, ANCC or BRN because I have a foreign BSN? Or it wouldn't be a problem because I already have an RN license and my MSN FNP education is from CA?

No, i don't think it would be a problem.

When you say regionally accredited, does it mean accreditation by WASC? while that is important, the NP program must also be either CCNE or ACEN accredited for you to sit for ANCC or AANP certification.

Having said that, I agree with the above poster that having that foreign BSN is a non-issue at this point since you will have the MSN with FNP specialization and you already have a license as an RN in California, a state which is probably the strictest in terms of granting RN licenses to foreign nursing grads.

Then you have nothing to worry about. I took the AANP and my BSN is from the Philippines and it never became an issue.

I took ANCC and all my undergrad subjects were all credited with no problems.

Thank you very much for all your reply! did you all get your BSN in the Philippines? Does it make a difference in the NP world where you got your BSN, or they will look at where you got your MSN and your Nursing experience?

The employer is only interested on your NP experience.
