Anyone applying for MUSC Acc BSN for spring 2011??

Just curious to see if anyone else is applying. I've had some difficulty with my online application sending the reference forms to my references.

How do you feel about there no longer being an SAT/ACT requirement and having to have at least 3 of the science classes finished before applying? I love it personally. My SAT scores were from so long ago that I don't think it represents my capabilities today. I also think that having 3 of the science classes finished will make it easier for the adcom to get a better feel for how the student may do overall in their nursing classes.

Does anyone know the breakdown of the weight of each section of the application toward admission? I know the SAT/ACT scores were a decent amount of the percentage last year. I'm curious to know what it is this year.

I'm anxious and excited to see if I get in this cycle. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone!!

Hello,

I am also applying the the Spring 2011 program. I have not had any troubles with the application but I haven't actually submitted it yet. I am still working on the essay. About the weights here is an email I got from the director,

"We admit 60 students each admission cycle from a competitive pool of applicants. Your cumulative GPA, science GPA, and prerequisite GPA are important to the process as well as a 100 word essay, any related volunteer, medical, or military experience. Three references are also required."

"the prerequisite GPA is the 60 semester hours - the advantage is for students with many credit hours since we calculate using the best humanities/social sciences and general elective grades. This is 20%. The greatest weight, 30%, is given to the science grades - A&P I, A&P II, Micro, and a science elective.

Volunter experience receives 3 "value-added points" - in a competitive pool, this can make a difference. We will not use the SAT or ACT in this next admission cycle. With the changes, it is hard to know what the pool will look like, and how the final decisions will look. Personally, I think not using the SAT or ACT will open up the pool, however since three of the four science courses must be completed, that will delay some people from applying. It is hard to know..."

I heard a rumor once that the essay carries a 35% weight, but like I said, that is just a rumor.

I guess overall I am nervous about them removing the ACT/SAT requirement because as it was there was usually over 400 applicants and I am worried that without this requirement there will be hundreds more...guess we shall see though :)

Best Wishes.
