BSN student precepting with a school nurse

I have had so much trouble finding a preceptor, but have now been hooked up with a supervisor overseeing 100+ schools. Normally the objectives are picked after you know where you're precepting, but this supervisor says she will place me after she sees my learning objectives.

I would prefer working in an elementary or middle school and would love some help picking some objectives that would be most appropriate for those ages. Are there standard screenings that are done most often in elementary or junior high? That might be a good place to start.

Thanks

I think what the supervisor wants is to meet your objectives for your learning. So, given what your career goals are, what experiences would you benefit the most form? Are you interested in ICU or improving your psychomotor skills? The supervisor will probably place you in school with many medically fragile students where you will be doing GT feedings, trach suctioning, catheterizations, etc. If your interest is public health nursing, she will likely place you in a school conducting a CDC School Health Index Needs Assessment and a strong wellness committee. If you want more experience giving meds, a large high school with 35 - 40 noon meds. So think about what you want to get out of the experience. The ideal in a school system that big, almost anything is possible.
