School Nurses,

How are you responding to the increased healthcare needs of the school population? As societal problems are mirrored in the increased incidence of teenage pregancies, drug abuse, child abuse, poverty, std's and communicable diseases in young people, it seems to be clear that more preventable education needs to be implemented. Are you finding that your school districts are supportive in program planning measures? Please tell me about your practices. In my last year in an RN to BSN program and planning for next spring's preceptorship with a school nurse, I know how much your scope of practice is transitioning and am interested to hear your thoughts.
