Mandating CRRN Certification

Specialties Rehabilitation

Published

Our ARU has been open now for 18 months. The director is making it mandatory for the RNs to become rehab certified. This has caused a big upset with some of the RNs, especially the older ones who will be retiring in the not to distant future. Question is: Do other ARUs make it mandatory that you be or become a CRRN to work in an acute rehab setting? The staff kinda feel they are doing it for publicity purposes. Thanks for any feed back

@ CorpsNurse How do you get started as a Ortho nurse? I am a LPN doing my ADN with Excelsior. I have a kid who was a micropreemie and is now a left hemi. I am an ex-jock who has a natural feel for biomechanics. Orthopedics is my life and I would like to share my gift with others. I don't want to be a therapist or a Dr. Nurses have a way of seeing connections that the latter two lack. I find myself running circles around her doctors and therapists and I think I have a lot to contribute. I want the credentials so they will listen to me without me having to produce journal articles backing my suggestions. They have tunnel vision and tradition which is the kiss of death for a nurse who must stay relevant to practice. So please point me in the right direction.
