Considering accepting a position.

My first job out of college was a GN at a free standing rehab hospital. If it hadn't been for my need to get into blood and guts nursing in an ICU, I'd still be in rehab. Possibly may end up there again some day. It was one place where I really got to use everything I learned in nursing school. It was a very interdisciplinary approach led by a physiatrist (no, not a pyschiatrist!). It was very rewarding becuz I really got to know my clients and their families. I worked with stroke and brain injury patients, as well as general rehab like neuro disorders and ortho stuff. Acute care skills and assessment were very important as well. I think I'm starting to ramble here. Anyway, I really liked it and if you have any further questions, post them to the BB.

I have worked in a Rehabilitation Unit for 1 1/2 year now. I am so thrilled with this job!

The first thing we learned was transfer techniques that are better than the ones taught in nursing school. The training is taught by Physical Therapy to any nurse or nurse techs starting this job.

We work as a team with all the disciplines, each backing up what the other teaches/does. We have staffing every week where each discipline discusses the patients needs, goals and how to implement our training.

We are a Carf accredited program and very proud of our unit, staff and the patient care we provide.

I think you will be very happy with this position if you decide to take it... but it may spoil you for other nursing assignments in the future. *smile*
