Is there anyone out there that places dobhoffs in radiology? If so, who places techs, RN or just MD. My facility is wanting me to start placing dobhoff's under fluro with my radiologist standing by. I work in a small hospital and there is one tech who can place them but do to politics he is not allowed to right now. I am the only Rad RN and do many, many things around here besides IR's. Also, I am presently the only RN who places PICC lines. As this goes along with the above, the above tech can also place lines but AGAIN due to politics, he's not allowed. Anyone have any thoughts, comments? HELP

Sounds like you're in the middle of a turf-slinging contest. :)

Our Radiologists placed the dobhoff. Period. This is in CA, where they or the techs are the only ones who can operate fluroro, by law.

Are you intimating you're too busy to be placing them? How many are done each month? Perhaps TPTB need to sit down and review the options here . .. within the law and your scope of practice within the state. Good luck!

I work at a large hospital in TX and we have one RN who puts the dubhoff's in under fluro without any supervision (MD/TECH). But dubhoffs and helping the techs with iv's, pumps, etc are his only jobs.:monkeydance:

The RN's place the dobhoffs in our dept. A Rad Tech operates the fluoro for us. When finished we have the Radiologist come in and verify placement. If we have difficulty with placement our Radiologists will come in and give us assistance.
