Best MPH concentration for Nursing

I was recently accepted to an MPH program. I was placed in the Health Policy and Management concentration. I am also interested in pursuing a career in Nursing as well and I will be applying for next year. I love Public Health as well as Nursing but I am having a hard time deciding which concentration is best for me to combine with nursing. Even though I was already placed in a concentration, I still want to know which is the best fit with Nursing.

As an undergrad student, my major was Health and Nutrition. The major allowed me to take all the intro classes to all of the concentrations so I do know what each concentration is all about. I just don't know which will go well with nursing. I need help deciding.........

Totally depends on what area of nursing interests you. If I personally were to do an MPH, I would do a maternal health focus, because that's the area of nursing I'm in. But any concentration could be used in nursing.

I agree with klone, I think any concentration would be applicable. I have an MPH with an epidemiology concentration (infectious disease), and although I'm finishing up nursing school, I can already see how elements of that degree apply to renursing. Even biostatistics can apply to nursing, especially if one is interested in nursing research!

One question, though; did you have any choice as to where you were "placed" in your MPH program, or were you able to choose your area of concentration? Back when I was in my master's program, we had to specify our area of concentration. Just curious.

I am not sure what my interest are as of yet. I am really excited to be in my MPH program and i feel like i will learn so much. I want to utilize my degree and to be the best nurse their is. My main focus is to do what would benefit my future patients.

Every one says that Health Policy is a great mix with nursing. Is that true? would I be able to benefit the patients?

I was told to pick a concentration when applying but I did not know which I wanted to do so I just placed any concentration.

My main goal is to be the best nurse I can possibly be. I have three deaf siblings and through them I learned that patients come first and I just want to do everything in my power to help.

I am currently applying to schools now for nursing. I will be starting my MPH in 2 weeks and I am soo excited. I feel like now I can learn something that will make a difference for the patients.

I just don't know which concentration to pick from. If I could, I would do all of them.

Any thoughts on the MPH concentrations now that you're close to finishing your first year?

I would say Health Policy & Management is a great choice. Alot of director level nirsing jobs that I see posted look for that specifically.

What type of jobs are you looking at now? I finished my MPH in epidemiology a few years ago and went to RN school afterwards. Recently became a RN and was curious about the job prospects for someone with a RN/MPH
