HI! im a recent LPN graduate. While i have some time before my NCLEX I am doing aid work for a private duty case. Im looking for some advice on how to handle my patient. She has dementia. One minute she likes me and cooperates with me & then she becomes very difficult and impossible to handle. We get her out of bed for about 5-6 hours at a time and i find her to become very bored. Does anyone have any tips for projects or activities that she would be able to handle? Thank you for all of your help!

You'll probably get more responses in the LTC forum, where they deal with lots of dementia patients.

Off the top of my head, though, I would recommend things like "busy aprons" (with zippers and buckles and buttons and things to fidget with) or giving her other things to keep her busy, like folding towels, etc.

Also, if you can find music from her generation that she might enjoy, or old movies.

You got some great suggestions from ^^ Is there any family you can consult with to ask them for further guidance? Does she enjoy movies? What about taking a walk together?
