University of Calgary 2015 Winter Nursing Transfer Route

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello friends!

I wanted to start a thread for all the students who applied to the U of C, for the January 2015 transfer route. I have applied, and am anxiously waiting on a change in status, on my student centre, hoping for the best. It would be great to hear from any other students who have applied, or heard responses!

Cheers

Hey there!

I've also applied to the Jan 2015 Transfer Route at U of C, and got my acceptance a few days ago.

I'm from the west coast so moving to Calgary would be a big step for me... So any tips on where to rent would be awesome! Also, I've heard that public transport isn't the best out there? (it isn't here either) but I was hoping to not have to bring my car!

What have you heard about the program?? All I've been able to find out is from their website.

Hope you've gotten your acceptance/I'm sure it's coming soon!

Hello!!

I went to talk to the nursing adviser today and found out I am admitted. :) So the pressures is off finally.

Congrats! I live in the deep south, and the school is in the north of Calgary so unfortunately I don't have the best idea of where the best places to rent are..

Assuming you would want to be near the school, the two LRT train stops before 'University Station' are called 'Banff trail' and 'Lions park'. I always see lots of students get on the train at these stops. They are older communities, and I assume more pricey for being located so close U of C, but the location is ideal if you will taking transit. Here is a LRT map link.. Calgary Transit: Calgary's Light Rail Transit Line

I've heard of many people using kijiji Real Estate for Sale in Calgary | Kijiji Classifieds to find places to rent..

The transit system isn't very intricate.. takes you right to the school which is nice, but having clinical at hospitals will be hard without a vehicle. Doable, but very time consuming. I'd advise a vehicle! Transit is especially a pain with the cold winters. In conclusion, to and from school shouldn't be a problem (as that is how I get to and from school), clinical might be a different story.. but I'm not fully informed on that.

Haven't heard too much about the program! Heard it's a grind (being accelerated and all) but doable with hard work and dedication.

Best of luck moving to Calgary!

thanks for the info jkd12! I have been looking on kijiji and there seems to be lots available...but also expensive!! :s I'm going to try the first semester without my car I think and if it's absolutely unbearable then Ill have to bring it out, it would just be nice not to have that cost.

I was thinking of starting a facebook group for the transfer/degree holders for Jan 2015, that way maybe I can network earlier and find others who are moving into the city and we can also get a feel for the group :)

If you have any friends who need a roommate let me know! Thanks again, Ill let you know what I name the fb group!! Excited to meet you!

Also, I haven't gotten my the information package from the nursing department yet? I've gotten a letter offering admission but that didn't really contain much additional info. Maybe it's just because I live a bit farther away so it will take a bit longer?

I havn't gotten any letter at all! WhenI spoke to them last, nursing told me I can anticipate a info package later on. She also said there will be a info session date in the package, and steps that we have to complete prior to nursing (ie criminal record check, mask fitting, vaccinations, CPrH ect.)

Oh boy, knowing them it wont come until two weeks before and it will be trying to get all that stuff done + exams! Ahh so excited to be in this program!!

What was your major before you decided to switch?

I got my online application status changed to "admitted" on October 10, and I haven't received my information package neither. All I care about is the UCID lol.

Thanx aNurse'son :)

And mayanew, I did a semester of biological sciences at U of C before I started taking the pre-reqs for the nursing transfer. I realized I wanted to do nursing one month in, of my first semester.. been quite a journey, but I'm really happy everything has finally seemed to work out! Yourself?

haha I've had quite the journey as well, I started out in conservation biology and loved it but kinda realized that as far as a long term career I may not be able to find something stable unless I became a consultant (which I wasn't really interested in). Then I had a summer job with the coast guard where I was able to get a feel for first aid/caring for patients and I just loved it! I always felt so rewarded and valued so I figured...why not make this my career? I also love to travel and as an RN your able to work abroad pretty easily I've been told and thats a major priority for me so yet another reason to be a nurse!

I'm super super excited to finally be in a program for something that I know 100% I want to pursue with people who are also passionate about it :)

my status says "The Recruitment and Admissions Office has reviewed your application and we are awaiting a Faculty decision." Was wondering if you went after it was updated to that.

Thanks
