Stanford Brown Vs. Concorde Career College

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I know neither Stanford nor Concorde are your traditional nursing school, but they do both allow you to sit for the NCLEX and thats what matters in the end.

I have been accepted into the RN program from both schools and I was trying to figure out which one would be best. I understand they are both overpriced and many people have complaints about there other programs, but for anyone who has some insight and experience with their RN program - Please share.

Well...Good Luck to you! Hope you do well in the course..I am loving it!

THanks so much and hope to hear from you soon.

Nursstud..

I am not a premium user....starving student and all..lol..but..

see if you can email me at g.larson8 at my (dot) sb-jacksonville (dot) com.

I would be glad to show you around the facility and answer any questions

about the program. I grad in Jan/Feb of 11, and just started my OB rotation.

As a male in a predominately female field, I think the OB rotation, while interesting,

will be spent more in the study room than in the patients room..lol

Anyway, get in touch with me at the address above...I cannot respond to private msgs here...

Oh...and FYI...SB offers both day and evening classes..Mon-Thurs

May be kind of late with this..but here is my opinion. I live in KC, Sanford Brown is no longer here due to issues with its nursing program.

I entered Concordes nursing program, but since I was unable to give the time required for the RN program I chose the evening and weekend LPN program.

What I have found out about this college, is they will shove professionalism down your throat while being very unprofessional. We had instructors come into our class bragging about how they had to drop 10 students from the RN program for failing a class. Our LPN class had 10 being dropped after the first two classes. You are there to give Concorde money and to put in your time, but from my experience the class is basically self taught. Skills labs were a joke. Equipment is outdated, falling apart or non existent. One time that comes to mind, we were given a stack of towels and told to imagine each towel part of the equipment we should be using.

Exams were difficult because you never knew what would be on them, the instructor would tell you 'you don't have to know this' yet that specific topic would be on the exam. As class lectures (which were/are nothing more than the instructor reading a powerpoint) crossed over between classes, the instructors had no consistency on what to teach. You would have to learn it one way from one instructor then forget it and do it the way the instructor in the next class wants it done.

You can check the state websites on graduation rates, but what it doesn't tell you is how many people started the class vs how many graduate.

Locally, Concorde has a mediocre reputation. Graduate can be hired easy enough.

My experience with Concorde makes me think that if you don't have some medical background before you start you will have a hard time. My background, thankfully, is as a Paramedic.

I am an RN student at Concorde in Denver and it is totally different here. The teachers are excellent and the facilities are very good. You get free unlimited tutoring if you are having trouble. The teachers care about their students. Most people that are having problems are trying to work full time. That is almost impossible with this excellerated program. Another problem is that it is easy to get in. Some people that get in don't have the ability to make it, but at least they are given a chance. As for the cost, the tuition covers everything: books, bag, scrubs, NCLEX cost, vaccinations, etc. It is still less than the cost of a nice SUV.

I will be starting SB in Jan. Can you please share more information about this school?

I am researching nursing programs also. I am currently trying to compare Sanford brown and Concorde. What is the application process for sanford brown and how is their program. Does anyone know?

With Sanford Brown I had to have an interview, take Teas test, and have a certain amount of college credits and that was all. The process was very easy.

Also just to let you know, Concorde requires you to put down a certain percent of your tuition BEFORE you can start. This is the reason I was not able to attend their school.

Just looking for an update. Which school did you decide and how did it work out for you?

I graduated from SB in Feb of '11..took boards in May of '11..first time go with 75 questions on NCLEX. Both SB and Concorde are more expensive than FSC etc..but they lack alot of the snobbish pretense when it comes to getting enrolled. However....any program that is recognized by the Florida Board of Nursing still requires the student to put forth the effort to learn the material. In this day of the 'gimme', I saw many students that really didn't put forth the effort at SB and I am pretty certain that the other schools have similar students. Just do the work and study hard...SB also uses API to help students bone up for NCLEX..it is a great program, and really does help. Remember the pass/fail rates shown on NCLEX report from the state are not really all that accurate...schools use programs like API *(and others) to weed out those students that probably wouldn't pass NCLEX, so those students don't get the green light to sit for boards....so the total number of students sitting for boards is usually less than the number of students who complete the Nursing programs..so not really an accurate picture of the 'success rate' of any school....I realize that someone will probably say otherwise, but then it is what it is.

SB no longer has a Nursing program because of the passing rate. They are teaching out the remaining students and then the program will dissolve.
