I always get coughed on and it freaks me out :-(

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and since I'm not living in America I don't speak English perfectly so sorry in advance. :-)

I'm still in training and currently I'm at the psychiatric station. I'm used to being coughed on by elderly people.. but at the psychiatric station it's gotten really bad. Just yesterday a schizophrenic, drug-addicted young man coughed all over my face. I don't know if he had blood in his saliva or throat-fluids (?) that he coughed all on me. And since I'm having sort of HIV-phobia, my head then keeps rattling if I got blood in my eyes or nose and I'm infected now and I can't stop obsessing over it and wanna take PEP and so on.

I know it's not a good habit if you wanna become a nurse, but I won't let this phobia keep me from becoming one. I'm fine with any other body fluids, just blood freaks me out because I'm always scared I'll get hiv.

Any tips? :-) I'd appreciate it, or hearing how you're dealing with any fears you might have had.
