I figured a post should be made for those of us just starting on our journey in becoming amazing nurses :D Everythings welcome from introductions to advice seeking to stating what "brilliant" ideas we mere freshman have for the next year!

So I'll start.

I'm StangGang92 (haha!), I'm 18 and obviously just graduated high school. I'm from Iowa and am attending a local private college to get my BSN. My pre-reqs only take a year and then the rest is co-reqs. I might sound crazy, but my academic plan right now has me getting finished in 3 years instead of 4, but I think I'll eventually move it to only 1 semester early.

I'm really undecided about what I want to do. I had a friend who was in the PICU for a long time and I fell in love with the unit, but I've also been looking into CRNA or NP route. So lately I was thinking either a FNP or a PNP and either be in a clinic or maybe be a PNP in the PICU. But I have a long road ahead of me so things will obviously change.

How many of you are planning on working? I have my CNA so I think I'm going to do some PT after I get the feel of things.

What school supplies are you guys bringing? I think I'm doing one huge binder for everything and having dividers for each class, but I'm not sure yet.

I'm not a "freshman", I'm a career changer and will be going to NS with career changers as well. But, congrats on your decision to become a nurse. If you want advice with NP, there's a specialty tab. Go to 'Nurse Practitioner' forum and there are great NPs that can help you on that subject. Base on their advice and my own research, I've decided to do the FNP over the PNP.

But for now, concentrate on going through college with good grades to get into the NS program. It is normal to be undecided your freshman year. Just don't lose focus. I've always wanted to be nurse, until I entered college and changed my major 5 times. Nonetheless, I'm back going for it now.
