FRCC Larimer Fall 2017

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all! I just applied for the FRCC Fall 2017 cohort and am anxiously awaiting to hear if I was accepted or not. Deadline is March 31st so it's going to be awhile....

Anyone else apply for FRCC Larimer, or Westminster? I did also apply at DSoN so, we'll see.

I think my odds are good, 4.0 gpa in pre-reqs, 87.5 on the HESI with a 92 in biology and 84 in chemistry, but man I am SO NERVOUS!

Let's wait together!!

I'm in the same boat! Sort of. It's down to the wire, but I literally just finished my final prereq (Microbiology) at a different school two days ago, and then took the HESI yesterday. I was able to get my transcripts overnighted to Front Range, and as long as they are successful in expediting the process of getting Microbiology added into my transcripts today (the rest of my prereqs came from Front Range but I'm in North Carolina now... long story) I will be able to finish the application JUST in time for the Fall 2017 cohort deadline. It's due tomorrow. So far I am in shock that it is all working out, and crossing my fingers that it continues to do so.

My application process has been crazy! When my husband and I decided last month to move back to Colorado from NC, I discovered that I had three weeks to study for, and take the HESI. Not only that, but I discovered that Front Range changed their prerequisite courses, and that I needed microbiology now -- which I just happened to be taking at a school which works on a quarter system, so I was lucky enough to finish my finals in that class three days before the FRCC application deadline. I was able to get my transcripts overnighted to Front Range, and now I simply wait until they get my current school's transcripts entered into the Front Range database before I can apply, just in the nick of time.

I also have a 4.0, and ended up with a 92.5 composite on the HESI. Although I only got an 80 on the chemistry. Nice work in the sciences.

You sound like a great candidate to me! Hopefully we'll both end up being in the same cohort come Fall.

I'm super nervous too!

Wow! Great job on the HESI and your grades AND getting everything in on time! I really hope we both get in too!

I don't feel like I did well enough on the HESI (87.5) bit hopefully!

I'm really hoping they start sending letters out the first week of April.

I think an 87.5 sounds really good! You are also probably a resident of the area, and you have a 4.0. Those are all great things that give you points on the ranking system. Have you taken A&PII? Who was you teacher for your A&P classes at Front Range?

I am taking A&PII now, I didn't think I could do the accelerated course with both 1 and 2 last semester since I was also taking micro and a math class and... gah I don't even remember what the other one wall! My teacher last semester was Wolfe, she was great. I'm online for A&PII. Have you taken both?

Thanks for the encouragement, I think I'm just stressed. Yes I'm a resident so I think I got an extra point for that?

Did they expedite your stuff?!

Ah. You're doing/did accelerated. Good on you! That's a lot of information to take in on an accelerated course... and still maintain a 4.0. I took Nina Kahrina for both I and II, and she was an amazing teacher. Hard to understand at first because she has a very thick Russian accent, but I thought she was just fantastic. I'm not really familiar with any of the other science teachers. How is your experience with online A&P so far?

They did expedite my stuff! I was able to turn in my application on the night of the 30th! I e-mailed and called around until I could find the person who was actually doing the transfer credit evaluation. I explained to her my situation and asked her myself to expedite it, rather than rely on someone who had just simply requested an expedited evaluation via form or something. I'm glad I did, because I don't think it would have happened otherwise.

Now that the whole process of applying is over I feel much less stressed. At this point I feel like if I don't get in, it wasn't meant to be (not that I won't be really disappointed).

You actually get two points for being a resident. If you're feeling nervous, you can find--somewhere on the nursing portion of FRCC's website--a PDF of ranking point system. If you haven't looked at it yet, maybe go check it out. It might ease your mind a little bit in the midst of waiting!

Idk if my score makes me feel better or worse lol!

Did whoever you were talking to happen to mention when we should hear back about acceptance/rejection?

When are you guys moving out here?

I wish I knew more! All I know is that it will be no more than 30 day after the application deadline. So sometime in the month of April we will know. I check my school e mail every day. I know this is pretty competitive program, but if you don't get in with a 4.0 and a score in the high 80's of the HESI, then this is a much more competitive program than I thought!

We are looking at moving back near the end of the summer. We moved to North Carolina in September and just really miss the West. Not to mention I got into a program at a school out here that is practically robbing us. It's $20,000 a year, and so far I've taken five classes. Only three of them transferred to FRCC, and I am only receiving 2/3 the amount of credits per class after the transfer evaluation, costing me a whopping $14,000 bucks. Take me back to community college! Ha.

I hear you! I am checking my email WAY too much lol. Expecting anything this first week was probably silly, but one can hope!

I would like to think the scores we have are competitive enough, but we just won't know until the cohort info comes out. The wait is killer!

Holy tuition Batman! I don't blame you for wanting to come back just for that!

Hi guys, has anyone heard anything yet? The suspense is killing me! I got accepted last year, but had to decline, and we had heard back by April 5. I've been checking my email constantly and I'm starting to get nervous!

Nope. I've heard nothing. I even emailed to make sure they got my application (they did).

I've been nervous since I applied so....idk.

I wish they'd get back to us!

You heard back April 5th last year?! Hmmmm, I wonder why it's taking so much longer this year? Splitting hairs maybe?

That's what I was thinking, too. Maybe the pool is just really competitive this year. Did you calculate your admissions score using this worksheet?

https://www.frontrange.edu/docs/default-source/programs-courses/LC-Nursing/nursing-larimer-campus-admission-ranking-table.pdf?sfvrsn=12

I got a 94 when I did mine. I know that's good (I think I got lucky with the HESI), but I'm honestly not sure if that's enough.

I hope we all get good news soon!
