Can a B student get into UTHSC?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello all nurses, this is my first post and I'm very nervous. Im attending hcc doing my pre req, my goal is to transfer to uthsc for fall2017or twu spring2018. I have completed so far 38 credits and two are science. I will be taking speech during the winter sessions to complete the 40 required credits to apply. What has me really worried is that my gpa is not competitive. I have a 3.2gpa because in my basic I mostly have Bs and I have a C in algebra, but in my chem I have an A and ap1 i got B. Do you think I have a chance in getting in with my gpa ? Also does it matter that half of my basics were taken online, I did this bc I work full time. Also how true is that you have a better chance in getting into uthsc if you are a minority(Latino). Some students I have encountered who have been accepted told me that I shouldn't worry since I'm a Latino. How true is this?

Please help need some relief, any advice is welcomed.

What other factors are there that the school will determine your acceptance with? Do you have to take the HESI A2 or TEAS exams? Attend and interview? Provide a written statement? Do certain courses require a specific grade or higher (ex: for the nursing school I'm applying to, I must have a B or higher in all sciences and C or higher in all others)? I would say as long as you have a good exam school and do well on your entrance exam, etc., of course you still have a chance! Just be sure to check all of your other acceptance requirements. Most nursing schools require several others along with GPA.

As long as your online credits are through an accredited school, it shouldn't matter whether took them online or not! I'm taking a lot of my pre-nursing credits online, too. :)

Good luck!

Thank you for replying, yea they require a 75-80% grade on each subject and the minimum gpa of 3. My only doubt is that I constantly see that only people with gpas of 3.5 and above get in. I've been trying to raise my gpa but it's taking forever. I guess I'll keep my positive mind set and go do it, my goal is to start this upcoming fall so hope my prayers will be heard.

You're welcome! Just study extra hard for any remaining classes you have, and make sure your entrance exam and all have awesome scores. In the end, the worst outcome is you don't get in there. You can always retake a couple classes to bring your GPA up and then re-apply another semester. I know that's not ideal, but like you said, just stay positive!
