AS OR BSN If they both offer RN exams in the end.

Hi I have a Bachelor of Arts and I'm wondering the difference between the two year AS degree and the BSN degree. They both have you take the exam to become an RN.

Is there a difference? and will someone explain it to me.

So what is the best course of action to take? I also have to retake my sciences because the time limit has passed my degree is over ten years old.

The difference academically is that the BSN gears you more towards advancement in nursing (such as management, research, eventually getting you masters.) Where as the ADN is strictly for those who want a license to practice nursing.

The major difference at least in my area, (DC metro), is that major hospitals ARE NOT hiring new grad ADN's. All of the major hospitals in my areas state BSN preferred on their job postings.

It depends on your area, financial situation and flexibility which option will work for you. I know many people getting thier ADN and then bridging in an RN-BSN program.
