Direct Entry Admissions Chances Psych

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hi everyone,

I will be applying to Psych NP direct entry programs next year, and I'm really having a hard time finding admissions statistics for direct entry programs, especially psych. Here are my stats:

Pre Req GPA: 3.4-3.6 (depending on school)

Anatomy and Physiology grades are 3.3

Cum Undergrad GPA: 3.26

GRE will be taken shortly. (Scored 1080 on old practice test)

Experience: I have worked with developmentally challenged students for 7 years. I am a tutor and life coach on the weekends, helping kids who have a variety of psych disorders (mood disorders, depression, etc)

I'm a bit concerned because of my anatomy and physiology grades. Do you guys think I should re-take these classes? How competitive of an applicant am I?

Here are the schools I'm considering

Seattle University

Oregon Health and Sciences University

Asuza Pacific University

Any insight would be great! Thanks!

Maybe I can help. I applied this year to 6 direct entry PMHNP programs and got into all of them. I think you have a good shot as long as you raise your GRE scores. My cum GPA was similar (3.3) and I think having a high GRE score really helped me (1450, 5.0). PM me if you want tips for GRE. Also, your personal statement is very important, so work really hard on writing a good one that clearly demonstrates your goals, why nursing, why psych, etc. Your background is good and you should def talk about it and weave it into why you choose this career path. I'm not entirely sure how your pre req GPA will fare. I got As in my classes, but a B+ average isn't bad. I would not retake.
