USF CA MSN-CNL Non-nurse Summer 2011

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi There,

I've been searching around and I haven't seen a thread yet for USF's CNL program for non-nurse Summer 2011, so I thought I'd start one.

Anyone out there applied yet or still applying? I just submitted my online application last night and am preparing the supplemental packet to send out tomorrow.

Anything you'd like to share, by all means, please do!

Thanks,

KTZ

kzimmermann,

Congrats on getting waitlisted, there is still hope you'll get in, so that is great news. I am curious if you have any pre reqs in progress, or if you are already finished with them? The reason I ask is that except for 2 pre reqs I have in progress, my pre req gpa is a 4.0 and I have been volunteering at 3 places and I thought my goal statement was strong, but I got rejected so I am curious if its because the end date for my in-progress classes overlaps with the start date of the program.

Hi everyone! I received my rejection letter in the mail today.. i'm pretty bummed. I was on the waitlist for spring with one pre-req in progress and was rejected straight off the bat this time around, I was pretty surprised that I wasn't at least waitlisted. Just goes to show that you never know. For those of you out there that have also received rejection letters don't give up, you'll all get in where you are meant to go. I have heard that it is easier to get in for Spring admission so you could always reapply in October. Good luck everyone and best wishes.

Aww blsulliv, I am so sorry to hear about your rejection, just keep your faith strong, I am sure there is a wonderful path in front of you and you will find the right school. We are all going to be extraordinary nurses one day no matter of the school that welcomes us.

I haven't gotten anything yet, may be it's my location, so Monday is for sure. And eenglish, I am not sure about the prereqs in progress, I didn't want to get you worried because of my worries.

blsulliv, do you have a back up plan, are you waiting on more schools?

Thanks Stani! Its hard because I feel like my whole life is in the bay area now.. I am currently living in Oakland, and I was really hoping to be able to stay up here. I was accepted to USD and still haven't heard from SF state. Looks like I'll be moving back to Southern California (I am originally from LA). Good luck! I really hope you make it in :)

Oh that's great that you are accepted at USD, San Diego is beautiful. I understand that you want to stay where you are, this is another reason I am bummed about UCLA, because I don't want to move again. I feel like I've been moving all my life and I have finally created a life for myself here. Oh, well, good luck to you as well and hopefully we'll meet as nurses one day!:)

Thank you, eenglish!

You have great credentials -- really great --and the only thing I can think of is the fact that your classes overlap. Since the classes are prereqs, they would want to ensure that you have everything complete before starting the program. Your other post says that you end your prereqs in May but do they finish before the 23rd or after? I'm assuming they end after.

Scholastic stats aside-- and mine are good but certainly not stellar-- is that I have 25 years supervisory and management experience managing staff, budget, etc. at a variety of business settings. This is the only thing I can think of that boosted my application to be considered for the waitlist.

@Kat061111

and those who were accepted/waitlisted, or plan on reapplying- I talked to someone who is in the program now and she is still working 2 days a week and doesn't feel like the first semester is too strenuous. Classes are basically 3 full days a week, and because clinicals do not start until 2nd semester it is totally feasible to work that first semester. Once clinicals start, I am guessing classes are still 3 days a week plus 1-2 days of 7am-7pm clinical shifts.

I looked online last night and found the schedule for Summer which looks like, Wed. 9-12:30 1:25-4:55 5:30-7:30 Thur. 4-6:20 6:30-8:50 Friday 9-4:30 The Wed. 5:30-7:30 class only meets 6x and you also have the option of taking it on Tuesday 8:31-9:30.

This is just what I found on USF's registration site last night based on the CNL curriculum pattern, so don't quote me!

When clinicals start they are 1-2 days a week and run from 7am-7pm (not sure if this is 100% of the time?) and the hospitals USF works with are Stanford, John Muir, SFGH, UCSF.

Hope this helps!

Hi all,

I am still waiting.....ugh. I was just wondering for those that were waitlisted, if your letter said anything about when the people who were accepted had to commit? Or when they would be contacting you. Congrats to everybody with good news, and keep trying for those that weren't so lucky this time around.

Thanks laurentb!

I live close to USF to I got my rejection letter on Friday/Saturday (I was out of town this weekend, so I only saw it last night). Not really surprised since I shot myself in the foot by asking a professor who turned in the recommendation letter two weeks AFTER the deadline, especially since it's a rolling process. Oh well. Congratulations to all those who got in, though!

@Niffy: Oh man. I'm sorry to hear that your professor lagged on the recommendation letter.

Well, good news for those of you on the waitlist -- you'll definitely be bumped up by one spot. I don't know why I had dates wrong, but I don't have finals for my last two classes until 5/24 and 5/25 respectively. So, needless to say USF is definitely not an option.

Good luck to you all who are waiting! :)

@ kzimmermann, do you know for a fact that you need to be finished your classes before the summer semester starts? Is that what USF told you? The reason I ask is that I spoke to someone else who also got waitlisted and her classes dont end until May 27 and she didnt mention anything about the overlap in time being an issue.
