Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello all, I recently got accepted to university of Arizona run to MSN clinical systems management I start in January, 23 months long. Anybody have any info, on this program. Secondly what is it that I can do with this particular degree? How easy would it be to enroll in a post masters NP program.

And I also feel the school is being somewhat deceiving since some of their brochures and links advertise it as an MSN. The enrollment counselor calls it an MSN in her signatures on her emails. I sent her an email and asked her if it was an MS or MSN and she said students are awarded an MS in Clinical Systems Leadership.

I don't know where you got that info but it IS an MSN....

The enrollment counselor specifically said it was an MS. That is old literature in your link. If you go directly to UofA Nursing website, it says MS. That link you posted is exactly why I stated that the school is being deceptive.

And here are the first graduates of the MS in Clinical Systems Leadership. No MSN and no mention of "Nursing" at all in the title of the degree.

Wow; that's really interesting Lovetennessee. I was considering applying to UofA but I'm not so sure anymore. I would be interested in hearing from somebody that is currently in the program or recently graduated; but considering it's not even an MSN (maybe that was a recent change?) and that cost are exorbitant ($800/ credit hour plus fees tacked on everywhere) I am starting to think it's a good idea to look elsewhere...

Hey Stewey! Congrats on pursuing higher education.

I was previously enrolled at Uni of Arizona, and it was NO JOKE! The assignments were extremely challenging for me. The professors grade very hard on your discussion posts, taking off points for the smallest mistakes. In addition, Lovetennessee is correct in stating that it is NOT an MSN, but rather an MS.

My humble opinion? I would avoid it due to the costs.

I am currently in the UA RN-MSN program. It is tough and requires a lot of work but it can be done. The degree IS an MSN.

Hi everyone, I just got accepted to the RN-MS program and after reading some of the comments I started to question what type of degree I would obtain after completing the program. I emailed my enrollment counselor asking for clarification about what specific degree students earn w/ this program and this is what she sent in response:

Frequently Asked Questions: RN-MSN Program Last updated: Aug. 10, 2015

· How will my degree be listed on my diploma?

Masters of Science (first line)

Nursing Clinical Systems Leadership (second line)

· What credentials can I use after I graduate from the program?

You may use MS or MSN. Both are used interchangeably to designate an MS in Nursing.

· Is there a difference between an MS and an MSN?

Use of MS versus MSN varies by educational institution and how degrees are awarded. Typically, a Master of Science in Nursing is a Master of Science degree focused in a specific area of nursing such as Clinical Systems Leadership. When the degree is granted through the graduate college of a university, it is often formatted as an MS. When the degree is granted through a College of Nursing, it is often formatted as an MSN. In the case of the University of Arizona, all courses are offered through the College of Nursing and taught by nursing faculty, but our Master of Science in Nursing is granted through the Graduate College.

· What professional positions am I qualified to apply for?

Individuals with a Master of Science in Nursing Clinical Systems Leadership are qualified to apply for any position that requires an educational degree of BSN or MSN and matches their current knowledge and practice expertise, including the new knowledge and skills gained in their master's program. Please note, individuals with a Master of Science in Nursing Clinical Systems Leadership are not qualified for positions that require an advanced clinical practice license such as nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist. Individual circumstances may vary based on your current practice certifications and various clinical practice agency requirements.

· What positions are recent graduates of the RN-MSN program working in?

-Director of clinical practice division, such as home care, oncology care clinic, medicalsurgical nursing, care coordination or case management

-Assistant director of nursing in a large medical center

-Director of clinical quality and safety department -Supervisor of nursing practice

-Faculty in nursing program

-Educator in clinical care organization

-Coordinator for clinical research protocols -Manager of clinical care unit

-Coordinator of care within a specific clinical area such as diabetes

Hope this helps guys!!

Hi there! I just got accepted into the program and still debating accepting. I have a few questions if you don't mind answering ;-)

Do you like the program? Would you recommend it to others that want to pursue a leadership role in nursing? Are up able to manage the classes w/ working full time (assuming you're are working full time)? Any advice on how to save money on the books that are required? Do you feel like you made a good decision by starting the program?

Hello,

Does anyone have any information on the NP programs offered at University of Arizona? I've applied for the Fall 2016 cohort.
