Thinking about the future -- what to do NOW?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I'm just about finished with my first semester of nursing school and I've had plenty of frustrations (with instructors and the lack of organization of the program) but otherwise, it's been good. It looks like I shouldn't have a problem getting A's in all my classes.

I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do. I already have a degree in child development and I went into this knowing that I probably wanted to go on, beyond RN.

I've thought about PA, but I don't know. I'm still open to that possibility, but I would work as an RN for a while first.

Lately I've been thinking about CNM and just started googling the distance options for that. I would love that work, I think, but I don't really want to be limited to *only* that. Are there any CNM programs that would also leave me qualified for some amount of general family practice? I am really interested in women's health. I'm considering a functional medicine course this summer that is centered on hormone regulation, which is obviously something people think about for women, but it concerns men as well. What are the options for practice as a CNM? Kids? Men?

I'm just putting my feelers out. I've been waiting to start this nursing program for YEARS, and until now, I was really just focused on that. But now that I'm in it, I'm ready to look forward.

I see that some CNM programs want you to have experience, and some of them count doula experience (?? is that true) so that is also something that I could do this summer.

Anything else I should be thinking about right now? I'm open to EVERYTHING right now, so please, share your thoughts!
