how deterimental is going RN to MSN and NOT gaining BSN on the way?

I am wondering about the negatives associated with completing a RN to MSN program that does NOT convey a BSN? Does anyone have any experiance with this or knowledge that they would be willing to share?

One consideration is, let's say I do the MSN at said school that does not convey the BSN and then later attempt to return for a post master's certification in another specialty...will the lack of a BSN complicate matters?

I know, I could ask any school that I might be interested in but this is pretty far down the road. It really does affect how I progress in my education now though and so I appreciate any insight anyone has.

They won't care about a BSN if you have your master's in nursing, as long as you have the educational documentation to prove it. All any post-master's certificate programs will care about is you having your MSN.

I don't think it would matter at all. Most schools who offer the RN-MSN require you to take certain "bridge" courses to satisfy the entry requirements. When you are job seeking you will be looking for jobs that require an MSN and MSN > BSN so I wouldn't think it would ever be an issue.

Adding: unless you go to a school that isn't accredited for yuour MSN I don't think it would matter either, because to get a post-masters cert you need a masters, which you would have.
