Finding Places To Do Clinicals

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I just got accepted into the University of Missouri-Columbia for my MS in Psychiatric Nursing (NP). I was wondering if anyone has had clinical experience going to that school or any other online schools. How did you find sites for doing your clinicals? Thank you. Krisssy

I have a solution for you. I had no idea you're from Long Island!!!! I'm a fellow New Yorker now displaced in New Jersey. Ahhh, it's not too bad, I'm just over the GW Bridge. Anyway, enough babbling. Here's the solution..........SUNY Stonybrook offers a MSN Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner program online and you do the clinicals through their University Hospital. Just transfer from Missouri to SUNY Stonybrook...and you get the resident tuition rate since you're a NYS resident!!!!! Good Luck!!! Lou

Jeepgirl,

It is so good to find another MU grad student. Since I do not live in Missouri, so far it is not working out very well. First I emailed my advisor, and she ignored me. Then I emailed the coordinator with questions. She said that the advisor had been away, but she is back now, and she would forward my questions to her. I still heard nothing. So I emailed my advisor again. This time she answered and said to go ahead and register for my first course (I decided on Theory) and buy the books. She set up a telephone conference for last Fri. So I registered and bought the books. The advisor called me on Fri., and said she could only stay on the phone with me for ten minutes, because she had a meeting. She rescheduled for today. Well today she never called. I emailed her, and she never answered. I received the books, and two of them were used when I ordered new. I called, and they didn't have any new books. The advisor also told me to email the secretary regarding places in my area that had contracts for clinicals. She emailed back that she had none. I am very frustrated, so far, with this school. Any suggestions? Krisssy

Lou Nurse,

I was going to apply to Stony Brook, but someone on allnurses told me that she had the same problems with them that I just described in my post to Jeepgirl. I am wondering now if I would be able to take this one course and if Stony Brook would accept the transfer? What do you think? Also, do you think Stony Brook is harder to get into than Missouri-Columbia? Krisssy

Krisssy...

I am sorry about your frusteration! Starting up is the worst part (I found that out with the RN-BSN). Things do get better. I'm sending you a PM with some contact info so you can contact someone in the program.

With the book thing, consider yourself lucky! Used books are the same edition as the new, and they are just as good... and they save you money! But I understand that you wanted the new - and by gosh, if you ask for it, you'd hope you'd get it! They always end up sending me new when I wanted used because they run out!
