Applying for Frontier Nursing University FNP MSN+DNP Class 128 or 130

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I am done with all of the requirements to apply for FNU's FNP program but had a couple questions before I sent everything in.

A little about myself... I graduated from Univeristy at Buffalo with my B.S. in Nursing with a 3.4 GPA. I began working on a med-surg floor at hopital in Pittsburgh, PA. I was there a little more than 6 months when the opportunity arised to take a postition in a Burn Unit. I took the job as I was interesed in critical care and was still unsure whether or not I wanted to become a nurse anesthetist. I now have my 2 years of critical care in and for many reasons decided that becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner will be the best choice for me, one reason being able to have a bigger impact on those in my community. In addition to the burn unit, I have been working for a staffing agency in the area where I go to a pediatric facility and care for neonatal abstinance syndrome infants and other children up to the age of 18.

1. I have completed the resume in the format that is required, but feel that it is too simple to really convey all of the experience I have under the employment section. I have listed the 3 RN postions that I have had, but am unsure whether or not to list my job responsibilities under each of them. What did you guys do?

2. Did you get in for the class you applied for?

3. I have seen on here that a lot of people have been placed on a wait list for previous classes. Did you get into the following class?

4. Is anyone else applying for class 128 or 130 in August '14?

Looking forward to hearing from everyone!!!

I can't answer yet as I'm still collecting everything for my application packet. How did you convert your resume into their format as I am a bit confused on that. Also, how did you format your goal statement? I'm looking to apply to either 130 or 131.

As to part of your question, I would think listing your job responsibilities wouldn't hurt. Also, the essay is where you really tell about yourself and selling your experience. I could be wrong though.

I just used the format from the hyperlink and input all my info. I'm not really sure why they want all the resumes in the same format, but I assume it cuts a bunch of the fat from peoples resume. As for the objective, I just wrote a sentence relating to my goal of becoming a FNP. I hear the essays carry a lot of weight too, so I made sure to spend some time on them.

Applying to class 131 for FNP. Frontier Bound is in November. Nervous about all the wait listing I hear they do. Read some post about people being accepted off the wait list one week before frontier bound. Not much time to make plans. But I've put in vacation time at work and plan to just drive so keeping my fingers crossed. Wish it wasn't so far away.

just applied for 131 (online application done and headed to the post office to submit the rest of my application). eek! ive been looking at frontier for over 2 years and this is the only school im applying to- its really the only school I want to go to.

1. I put my position and briefly my responsibilities on my current job (not the common knowledge stuff but the things I do outside of my "normal job responsibilities" ex. labor and delivery nurse, triage nurse, high risk nurse, circulating nurse, preceptor, charge nurse, diabetes champion, discharge call manager) I tried to keep it as brief as possible b/c Im sure with the hundreds of applications they get they have to get through them quickly

I can't answer 2 or 3 but Im crossing my fingers. If i would have gotten my references together I would have applied to 128 or 130.

good luck yall!

Good luck to you too southern belle. Mailed mine off today. I keep thinking of things I could have added to the essay but too late now. Keep in touch.

I applied to 130, I also applied to Simmons. Only thing I don't like about this school is the insanely long time they take to notify applicants of acceptance. I don't see how they can make people wait so long, especially if you're applying to more than one school. If I hear from Simmons first I'm accepting, even though their more expensive.

me too! all day i've been thinking about how i could have said things differently. i was talking to a nursing bud today at work and said how i wished there was a face to face interview. its so hard to get across how badly i really want this and how badly i want to give back to my community in 500 words or less. hopefully i did a good enough job to get accepted and can prove it in my actions.

fingers crossed for both of us!

I completely agree. The wait will be agonizing. Applying to university of Cincinnati for back up. Their deadline isn't until october 24 so I'm praying frontier lets us know before then so I will know whether or not to even apply. Thinking if I get waitlisted I will apply just in case too.

I applied for class 130 as well! Dreading this wait! Goodluck to everyone

Did anyone actually apply for 128. I am in that pile of applications!

I applied to class 128 and received an e-mail today that I have been ACCEPTED!!! I am very excited, especially considering I though I was going to have to wait until early July to find out! I wish you the best bennett and keep me posted!
