Question for Philly Area Nursing Students

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

I'm hoping to get some feedback from current nursing students. In addition to my regular nursing position, I'm considering starting a business offering tutoring/resume/job-hunting assistance to nursing students. I have done this informally and really enjoyed it.

As a student or new grad, does this sound like something you would use, or would you be more likely to take advantage of the free services provided by your school? Would you find it helpful to supplement what your program offers with the tips and tricks of someone who has recently gone through the experience of nursing school, standardized testing, and job hunting in this area?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I don't begin my program until May, so I'm not a nursing student just yet, but I don't see how your services could hurt. It sounds like a good idea, especially considering the amount of nursing students within the Philly area. Go for it! It doesn't hurt to try.

I do think, however, that you would be best to start the business in a down economy, since new grads are really struggling to find jobs. While most students and new grads may use their schools' resources for finding jobs, it certainly could give them an edge to use someone who's already hired and working in the field as opposed to a student service that's not actually in the field. Of course, once the economy improves, you may find that new grads will be snatched up quickly again and not in need of your services, except for the tutoring part. Seems like the down economy could actually work to your advantage.

I think its a great idea. It seems that alot of Grads are having a hard time finding jobs so having someone like you to help with perfecting resumes and job hunting would be of value.

Thank you both for your replies. I've been giving the idea some thought lately and decided to go ahead and give it a try - worst that happens is it doesn't work out!
