LaSalle Achieve Fall 2013

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

For years, I was reluctant to apply to LaSalle while finishing my pre-reqs at CCP. I guess I was intimidated, countless people told me to apply...but I put it off, fearing rejection. May 2012, I finally applied...studied for the NLN on-and-off the entire summer...received a high overall score on the entrance exam over 100... Sci. GPA of 3.25, Overall: 3.13. Received my "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter" from LaSalle in Sept (2012) and have been living vicariously through current students in the program now.

I have signed up for the last of my required pre-reqs at LaSalle so I can get a "feel" of their grading style and going to a large university. I know the official nursing acceptance letters won't go out until May 2013, and I shouldn't get my hopes up ...but I've worked so hard (and will continue to!) and hope that things will continue to work out favorably.

Has anyone else received their "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter"? Does that letter mean, if we continue on doing well and meet the required deadlines...that it "should" work out in our favor? Oh the anxiety...well I'll be practicing my conversions and studying.

Take away message: Don't get in your own way...and everything and anything is possible if you give it your all!

Intending Nursing, Fall 2013

YAY, CONGRATS!!

Thanks for the information! Did you use any supplemental material? How long did you study prior to taking the test?

For verbal I used the NLN book,freerice.com, I googled the 50 most common sat words (a few were on the test). For science I used the NLN book and googled a lot of Physics topics. There are a bunch of videos on YouTube that teach you easily. For math I just used the NLN book. I started to study about1 month before where I actually studied daily. Good luck everyone!

I am in the process of applying to La Salle University Nursing Achieve Program for Fall 2014.

Is anyone else in the application process? Acceptances?

How far are you in the application process? What is your GPA? Have you taken the NLN exam yet and if so, what did you score? rank?

:specs:For those of you with acceptance, or who have attended La Salle's program, can you shed some light on the program? What are course like? Clinicals? How was job placement? Prep for the NCLEX?

What supplies do they ask you have? What resources help you? Do they supply their own unifroms, or do they require the standard white?

Thanks in advance, look forward to hearing where everyone is in the process!

Is anyone else in the application process? Yes.

Acceptances? Nothing yet, still sending off transcripts, and clearances.

How far are you in the application process? I am really just starting, trying to get all my clearance completed, and still taking one or two pre-reqs.

What is your GPA? Currently, a 2.7, Science 3.0 . Trying to raise the overall.

Have you taken the NLN exam yet and if so, what did you score? rank? I am set to take the exam in October of this year.

I am still in the application process. I still have a few pre reqs to finish up. No acceptances yet. My gpa is 3.8 overall and I scored 90th percentile on the Nln, but I had to take it twice. The first time my verbal score was too low. Advice is to take your time and don't rush through it!! That was my mistake the first time around.

Hi unique2! I really hope we get in and pass the NLN exam as well! I don't really have a back up plan. I already spent a lot of money on pre-reqs. Some of them were already a waste because Drexel required them and La Salle doesn't. What is your first bachelors in?

Coconoir1908 - what is your masters in? I had thought about the ASN route just because it would be faster to becoming a nurse, but then I would definitely want to finish my BSN so I wasn't sure if that would make sense?

I hold a Master in Health Administration. After looking into a few ASN programs, I decided against this route. Doing a part-time ASN program (As I need to work), would be as long as obtaining the PT BSN. I have since applied to both LaSalle Achieve program and Neumann University. I have been accepted into the latter for Summer 14'. I still need to study and take the NLN and from there I will decide on which school I will attend.

Ladies, for those that were scheduled to take the NLN in Sept. and Oct. how did you do?

Hi KRiley....this response is a little late, lol but I attended La Salle's achieve program. I graduated last December and it was not a bad program at all. For the most part, the professors are very helpful and willing to help you with whatever you need, if you ask. The classes are not bad, but do require a lot of study/reading time. Clinicals are not too bad, but I guess it depends on your clinical instructor. Make sure you do all of your care plans and homework before clinical. Show up on time, work hard and always ask questions! If we were given weekly "generic" care plans where you just make up a patient and write about their illness, I would always do them in advance just to get it out of the way.

I can't really answer to any of the NLN questions because when I applied, it was the first time they were giving the NLN so they used our group of test grades basically as a trial run to see where people were scoring. I don't remember my score but they said I did pretty well on it.

There really isn't job placement, but I would highly suggest if you can find a hospital that offers a nursing externship, apply for it! Externships will help get your foot in the door for RN positions down the road when you are done school. If you can talk to a nurse manager (it might be hard when you do weekend clinicals) or at least get their name and contact info while you are doing clinical, get it and contact them, let them know you are doing clinical on their floor and ask for a CNA job or tell them you are interested in RN jobs in the future. Bust your butt in clinical because many clinical instructors work at hospitals and if you are good, they can help you get in (this was partially true in my situation).

For uniforms, I think they changed it a little since I finished the program...we wore all navy blue, but now I think they have light blue shirts with navy blue scrub pants. As far as supplies, you don't need much, just a stethoscope. When I started, they had a package you bought from the university bookstore with supplies you use during lab sessions (i.e. catheter kit, trach suction kit, wound care kit, etc.).

As far as studying for tests and doing well in class, the biggest help for me was practice questions. Do tons and tons of practice questions. Whatever is available in the textbook, do them! Whatever is available in the study guide that goes along with the textbook, do them! I used the Davis Success series (you can get the books on amazon) as well for each individual subject (med-surg, psych nursing, pediatrics, maternity, etc.) and it was very helpful. Not only will practice questions help prepare you for each quiz/exam, they will help you down the road when you are prepping for NCLEX. You will already have the technique on how to answer questions and you will be more prepared than your classmates that did not do extra questions.

When I graduated, the pass rate for NCLEX was not great and I know the school was putting some new measures in to place to bring up the scores. Luckily I passed the first time and a lot of my friends did too. We all took the Kaplan review class that was offered. And I'm convinced that all of those practice questions helped too! The school is doing a lot more to prep for NCLEX now.

Good luck to everyone applying and for those of you who were accepted! If you have any questions feel free to ask or PM me.

I still also need to take the NLN testing for Lasalle Achieve program. I just recieved my pratice book in the mail today. I plan to take it Dec 16th or 17th if there are seats available. I just hope I pass it. I applied to Lasalle and Harcum programs. Neumann is kinda far for me.

I am taking it dec 17, there are like 12 seat available..lol

They require nothing..it's just a 3 year program and you must maintain full time status to qualify for scholarship

Are u saying that u already have a bachelor's degree , if thats the case I think jefferson would be a good option but if not it is still going to take u 3 years no entrance exam as well as jefferson

Yes I already have a Bachelors in Criminal Justice. I'm going to look into Jefferson.
