CCAC - Bio 110

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

I'm taking Bio 110 this summer starting in July (6 week class! kill me now!). It's the only pre-req I need before applying to the nursing program. Does anyone have any tips for getting through this accelerated course unscathed (and hopefully with an A)?

Bio-110 was one of those classes that was just a bunch of info. Learn it, brain dump on the test, and then eventually all of it will come together when you take your other sciences. I am going to be dead honest with you, you're not going to get accepted with just your pre-reqs done. Everyone I have spoken to, and it's been a lot of people have had at least 2 out of 3 science courses done. CCAC has gotten extremely competitive SINCE THEY DROPPED THE PAX EXAM. I would definitely apply (it's free) but don't expect to get accepted. Trust me, you will be very glad that you have the majority of your big sciences out of the way. Also, even if you don't get into the spring 2014 program with your GPA being as high as it is you WILL get into the fast track program in fall 2014 and you will still be done at the same time as the spring cohort.

Thanks for the honest advice carbon86. This is the kind of information I was trying to get from CCAC and they weren't really helping me. That was my plan anyway if I didn't get in for Spring 14. The only thing that sucks is that if I get in the fast track program I will have to quit my full-time job accounting job making $40K a year. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. :)

You could probably keep your job for most of the program. If you have all of your co-reqs done before starting nursing courses I see no reason you couldn't do both, unless you have kids but that's a whole different set of problems lol. My schedule for the fast track program (first semester) is Mon(5:30 till like 9),Tue(7-10),Wed(7-8) or something like that, I don't have my schedule in front of me at the moment and then clinicals on Saturday 7-3.

Oh wow, that does sounds doable! I work 7:30-4 no kids (currently, hopefully never but who knows. We just got married last year lol) If I end up applying for Fall all of my co-reqs will be done and I would only be taking nursing classes! If I get in for Spring 14 I will just have A&P 2 left to take that summer. Are you done with everything except the nursing classes?

I am taking Mat108 this summer along with Ethics and Antrhopology but it's more by choice because I really enjoy my online classes and I wanted to get a head start on some of the courses I have to take for my BSN bridge. Otherwise all of my other classes are done. Keep in mind I have 3 young children (5,6,and 7) and I'm a stay at home mom so in order for me to be able to balance my home and school life I had to make sure that I was only focusing on my nursing courses. When I applied I had a 3.56 GPA, however with the added points I ended up with a 4.83 or something. It's all about the extra science classes in all reality. That's why even if someone has a 4.0 in all of their pre-reqs they still might not get in. Also make sure you have chem done because you can't even apply without it.
