Anyone familiar with Duquesne University's BSN program?

Greetings!

I was wondering if anyone here is a student or graduate from Duquesne University's BSN program?

I will be starting in the program this August and I'm very excited!

I am 25 years old and I began my college career at the University of Pittsburgh and went into Exercise Physiology. After working in the health and fitness field since the age of 18, I was already maxed out in salary and found that area of work to be low in employment (unless you want to work for commissions as a personal trainer). So, I decided to return to school and go further into health by entering a nursing program.

I was also accepted at UPMC Shadyside after I was accepted to Duquesne and I opted for my BSN now as I would like to have the degree down now in the likely event of going into graduate school. Other schools I applied to were Robert Morris and West Penn Hospital. RMU rejected my application and I have yet to hear from WPHSON. Regardless, I will be attending Duquesne this fall!

So if you are or have been in Duq's BSN program - what were you highs and lows? How was your hands on experience in the clinicals and community health setting? How was your prep for the NCLEX? Likes/Dislikes? What did a typical weekly class schedule look like? And any other advice and feedback would be greatly helpful!!!

Thanks a bunch!

You'll be better off attending another program in the Pittsburgh area than Duquesne. Most of the good professors left Duquesne because they cant stand the program and the mistreatment of students. Those preceptors who remained in the program because they couldnt find a position elsewhere. Some of them are pretty shallow and superficial. They judge you if you have a tattoo. One girl in my group was force to leave because she had a tattoo. You're wondering what does this have anything to do with nursing? Well, it doesnt. If you have a disagreement with a staff member, they'll write you up. So this is actually worse than boot camp. They dont allow you to question or think on your own two feet. If you deviate from what they think you should be or do even if you have a good suggestion, they'll hone in on you. You'll really be in trouble. Of the 8 people in my clinical group, 3 left on their own. On the other hand, I asked to change to a different group. Not possible at all without griefs and regrets for even thinking about it. I got kicked out of the program with just one month left until graduation, even with a 3.0 GPA. Good luck. You may have better luck than I did or my other three classmates. One more thing, Duquesne has to contract out to other hospitals in the area b/c it doesnt have its own hospital system. One preceptor told me "we are at the mercy of the hospitals." She said she knows how this process work pretty well. Go to Univ of Pittsburgh. They have their own hospital system. Wouldnt have to kiss up to anybody but just have to learn what you need to know to be a nurse. Duquesne doesnt even let you put in an IV. What's the point for going to nursing school when you come out and dont even know how to put in an IV. Too much liability for them so they tell the class that nobody can put in an IV.
