CPAN reference material needed!

Specialties PACU

Hello all!

I'm currently studying for my initial CPAN certification. I'm wondering if anyone has advice on where to find cheap study resources. I already have the current "Perianesthesia nursing Standards, Practice Recommendations and Interpretive Statements" from ASPAN and some older CE practice test booklets from a co-worker.

Does anyone know a cheap way of getting my hands on the Core Curriculum book or maybe Drain's Critical Care Approach? Even renting online or e-books are still more than I'm willing to pay. Doesn't look like my local library carries anything either. Any advice? The hospital library maybe?

Thanks,

Em

I found the Core Curriculum extremely unhelpful. I studied almost exclusively from Drain's Perianesthesia Nursing, and there were test questions that came almost verbatim from that text. I also did the practice tests offered by ABPANC. I'd check with your hospital library as well as the PACU directly to see if they have a copy you could borrow. If not, it's well worth the full price and can be used as a reference text long after you're finished studying. Given that the exam, renewals, and CEUs are also an investment, spending some money to make sure you pass on your first attempt is something you should consider. Otherwise, maybe plan on selling your book back on the Amazon market after you're finished with it.
