Hello All.
Just wanted to pick a few good brains. I am having surgery Sept 12 at a major Columbus Ohio Hospital ,but I admit I am scared a bit . Do any of my fantastic nurse friends have any ideas to help get get what i need ro make it thru thee surgery and recovery?
What I am having done is a open bankhart repair for instability
on my non-dominant right shoulder plus repair on three to four torn muscles. I have been off work since june 23. The original injury happened at work in a snowy parking lot at work on SuperBowl Sunday. My DH was ok with missing the game Bless him.
What I want to know is their any hints or handy tips to help me thru this?
Thanks

Have you had your pre-op anesthesia and periop. assessment? I would recommend discussing pain management options with the Anesthesiologist; specifically a shoulder block in conjunction with your general anesthesia. Controlling surgical pain in the first 24-36 hours will contribute to your R & R. Has your orthopedic surgeon discussed post-op PT and have you met with a therapist? I wonder if familiarizing yourself with the post-op PT regime prior to surgery may allay any concerns you may have with regaining mobility in your shoulder.
Good luck with your surgery.
