Mt. Hood CC Interview 2008

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

I just got a letter today notifying me that I have been selected for a group interview at MHCC. I have never done one of these and would like some advice on what to expect.

Any MHCC students care to share?

How did you prepare for the interview?

Also, what type of questions did they ask you? thanks for any future help.

Did they say in your letter the points cut off by chance?

No they didn't. It just includes the scheduled date, time, place, and some general information of the format of the interview (group). They make it pretty clear that we are NOT to call to see if letters have been sent out after the interview though. Did linfield have group interviews? If so, any tips?

I know a couple people who got in there. They just want to know you have common sense, morals and ethics. They ask what would you do type of questions. There is also a computer portion I think someone told me. Just to make sure you have the computer skills needed to suceed.

No group interviews for linfield, just a personal statement on a question they gave us and then they allowed an opportunity to write a little something about yourself that you feel is important that was not covered in the application. They do like you to list all the volunteer and work experience you have.

I got an interview too at Mt. Hood!! Woo Hoo!:yeah:

Other than what they explained in the letter I don't have a lot of insight since this will be my first ever nursing school interview...however I did interview twice for the Mt. Hood CC dental Hygiene program interviews and it sounds like the same format and the questions were of an ethical/moral nature as opposed to "why do you want to become a dental hygienist" they didn't really ask questions like that...they just like give you a pretend scenario where there is an ethical dilemma and ask you to write a paragraph how you would deal with it. Also, in the DH program interviews you never had a one on one portion where you talked with the interviewers about yourself or asked questions..therefore if there is something you want them to know about you (i.e. CNA experience etc.) then you have to work it into the answers to the questions.

Hope this helps somewhat and good luck!!

I was invited for an interview as well! Woo!

FWIW, I had 56 points.

I had an interview with MHCC's program last year and was accepted. The interview groups were sizes of 8 to 10 people. The group was sat down in a classroom, talked to a bit by faculty, and then given written questions to answer. As someone else said, they were ethical/moral questions by nature, I don't remember any BS questions like "so why do YOU want to be a nurse?"

Then, the group was moved to a conference room where we introduced ourselves and our background a bit and then we were randomly assigned individually to talk to the group and the interviewing faculty about one of the questions that had already been written about.

They will answer all your questions about the program and OCNE, etc. The faculty were very nice, and this summer will be their real summer (for most of them), so hopefully you'll catch them in a nice and relaxed mood :)

Dress professionally, act professionally. Also, there is no preferential choice for which cohort you are selected for, Fall or Winter start, if you're accepted. It's random, not based on anything.

Best of luck to all, and maybe I'll see some new faces next year!

edit: There was also a computer part, but that was just simply sending an email from a computer there.

Bluee, if one is in the winter cohort do they finish out during the summer of second year, or do they take the summer off and finish in fall?

winter-spring-summer or winter-spring break fall?

For the Winter start from 2007 (I dunno about 2008 start, they'll let you know at the interview), they get the first summer off then work straight through the second summer. So that's Winter, Spring, break, Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer. Then, if you choose to immediately continue on for the BSN through OHSU, you supposedly begin that very next Fall, for 3 more terms.

That means you could possibly go for 7 terms straight without a term off. Gonna be a marathon :)

Just had my MHCC interview today!!!

There were supposed to be 10 in our group but only 6 showed up....HEY fine with me, better odds, right?:nuke:

Overall, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It felt VERY long and we even got done about a half hour earlier than what they said (probably because 4 people didn't show).

What other posters have mentioned about the interview process is more or less correct. The computer portion is first, they give you 20 mins to basically attach a file to an email and send it to the college. easy stuff.

Then, they give you 5 questions to answer in writing in 1 hour. Then, they come back in and everyone will answer 2 questions orally in front of the group and the faculty. Everyone answers question #1 and you draw a number out of a hat for the second question that you will answer.

That's it. It was incredibly nerve racking, but the faculty were very nice and overall, I think I did an OK job. I don't think the interview hurt my chances and possibly helped me, but overall I feel like I did just OK.

I won't say what the actual questions were because I don't think that would be fair.

Good luck to all!:nurse:
