Perioperative Certificate

Specialties Operating Room

Hi everyone! I am a new RN as of May. I am looking into a Perioperative Certificate at a local community college. Do you think this will help me land a job in the OR? I really want to work in surgery and know it's hard for new grads to get in. Has anyone taken a course like this before, other than at a hospital?

Hi Jen, That is something that would be determined regionally. You need to list where you live to be more helpful. I live in central Indiana and while something like that wouldn't hurt, it also wouldn't help either.

I have seen other posts where other areas require floor experience first, some want a class like what you describe or something like that etc... So please list where you are so the people here can be more helpful. They are great when given enough info!

Sorry I didn't give enough info, I was trying to be short since I tend to ramble. I am referring to the Pensacola, FL area. The certificate is at the Pensacola Junior College. I don't know too many details because no one has returned my email or call requesting specifics.

Specializes in O.R., ED, M/S.

I am kind of curious what this cert entails? Is this like getting a mechanics cert without really working on an engine? Sorry, just a little levity. Please , I am kind of curious since in my 30+ years of OR time I haven't heard of this.
