Need some advice

Specialties Operating Room

Hello. I am a 30 year old nursing student in her last year of nursing school. I am having some trouble deciding how to plan a first pregnancy and OR nursing. I've known since I entered school that OR nursing is the one for me. I also would like to have a baby very soon as I would like eventually to have two or three. My problem is this. I can't decide when to do it. I really would like to be pregnant asap but don't want this to interfere with getting a job in the OR. There is a preceptorship in the spring (Jan-May) in the OR but there are only two spots and so I may not even get it. so I could wait to get pregnant until Jan so I would know if I got the preceptorship but if I don't, I won't be able to get a job right away because I'd be too far along. My other option is to try and plan the pregnancy so I have the baby next summer and then begin searching for an OR position. Most training programs start in Sept or Jan right? Or the last option is to wait two years before attempting to get pregnant and wait until I already have a job and have been there for a year. I know this one makes the most sense but truly I am ready to have a baby and have been waiting a long time already.

I know this is a lot to take in but I don't think I can be in the OR if I'm pregnant, right? (PLease correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I've heard). I'd like to go straight to the OR when I graduate next may but that may not be possible because some hospitals may want med/surg experience, right. I am in the Boston area.

Thanks so much for any advice. Sorry this is so long.
