I LOVE this job!

Specialties Operating Room

Published

I'm a May RN grad-- started in my hospital at the beginning of June with orientation and a couple of weeks on a post-surgical floor and started in the OR itself just before July.

I'm having so much fun down there that I almost feel guilty getting paid!

Ours is a smallish community hospital with 7 ORs. We don't do major trauma cases, but we get a pretty good selection of GI,GYN,major and minor Ortho, Urology, eyes, etc. Without exception, all of the circulators and techs, anesthesia staff have been terrificly supportive and helpful. About 90% of the surgeons are really easy to work with and are eager to teach if you show sincere interest in the case (which I definitely do, since I came to the OR from 30 years of private Podiatry practice).

Each day, I go in eager to see what's happening that day. I hang out with a great group of people who love to laugh and joke, but do really good work too. I see some fascinating cases (I especially love laparoscopic cases where I can really see what's going on), and then go home and leave the worries behind me. This is as opposed to when I had a private Podiatry practice and worried about it 24/7. Every other week, money mysteriously appears in my checking account. Life is good :yeah:

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.
