How to become an OR nurse?

Specialties Operating Room

Published

I am just beginning an RN program this summer, but I know that I want to be an OR nurse. What do I need to do in order to steer myself toward this career path??

Specializes in OR, Pediatrics.

I am graduating in 2 weeks from RN school and accepted an internship in the OR at the hospital I have had clinical at for the last 2 semesters. The advice we were given is to choose clinical sites at the hospital where you would like to work at least the last semester. There was only 1 internship in the OR and I began talking to them last November. I continued to speak with them until they offered me the position in February. Persistence pays off! I live in the suburbs of a large city and this hospital is the only one in the suburbs that offers an OR internship. You might want to contact the Nurse Recruiters of the hospitals in your area and see which hospital offers an internship. It's a good start. Hope this helps! good luck to you!!
