I would appreciate any feedback on San Antonio hospitals, medical centers, ambulatory surgery centers etc. from your O.R. nursing perspective. It is very likely I will be moving there in the near future and would love to have some recommendations before I actually jump into the interview process. Also, any salary info you could share would be terrific! Thanks so much!!

I am in San Antonio, but really can't give you much info on the OR perspective. I am starting the OR internship Jan 10th, 2005. i have been working as a nurse extern since last August, but not enough experince to give you any info from a nursing perspective. I am working at methodist specialty and tranplant hopsital through the methodist healthcare system. It is a great systen to work for and I really enjoy it!

Hello. I work in a small hospital in San Antonio and have been a nurse here for the past 30yrs. I am an ER nurse so sorry on that perspective. What I can tell you is the larger hospitals that are level 1 trauma centers are BAMC and Wilford Hall which are military teaching hospitals (that of course hire civilians) and the county hospital is University hospital, also a level 1 trauma center. I'm sure these hospitals' OR's are hopping all the time. The Methodist Hospital system is a very popular one amongst nurses supposedly for the respect they give nurses and flexiblilty in scheduling and great, up to date equipment. The starting pay for new RN's is $17.00 (this from a recent grad just in from job hunting). Where I'm at, night shift nurses gets $4.28 more/hr and the weekend diff is $3.25. I'm sure this varies. I'll go ahead and tell you that I make $27.60/hr base pay. I still think I'm worh more. Good luck!
