Training....HELP!!!

Specialties Oncology

Hey there again........I was wondering what you guys might think about the training they are offering me at the unit.

I have admitted that I know very little about oncology and they said that I will recieve 7 , twelve hour shifts......5 days and 2 nights for training then I am on my own!!!! Isn't that a little scary????

Thanks again for your time

Nurse1975.... it would worry me a bit. I guess I wonder what happens when you complete your brief training if you don't feel like you are ready to be on your own? Did they sound like you had the option of extending your training if you need to? Do they offer you in-service courses to get you up to speed with chemo, etc?

It might be worth clarifying some of these issues with them but on the otherhand, you told them you know little about oncology so they can't pretend to be surprised when you don't. You may want to jump in, give it a try and ask for a lot of help and support if you need it, especially if you are going to be able to take specialty classes to fill in the gaps.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
