I landed a volunteer position on the Oncology floor at one of my local hospitals while I attend school. I've been around cancer since I was young and most of my family has had cancer. My dream job would be to work with pediatric oncology patients, and at some point I'll probably get my NP in pediatric oncology.

I've always been on the personal level with cancer and never on the professional/work side of it. Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm able to do pretty much anything except nursing related things (which will be hard since I have nursing training).

Thanks!

Don't be afraid to ask questions! Most nurses will be happy to pull you into a room and show you what they are doing (as long as the patient is aware that you will be observing of course). Try to absorb as much as you can while you don't have the added pressure of getting a grade like in clinicals.
