Hello all,
Im wondering if anyone on this thread works in Pediatric Oncology? I am about to start nursing school in August and am SO excited. Ive ALWAYS wanted to go into Pediatric Oncology but everyone close to me tells me I will get too attached and too invested in my patients.. I was wondering if anyone had any insights for me... I want to get my foot in the door and try and get a job in a hospital doing this or volunteering. Esp to see if its really for me. Id love to hear from anyone that knows anything about this or has had any experience in this area..
Thanks so much,

As with any specialty, I would say that you don't know until you get there. If it isn't for you, you will find out. To volunteer, contact the biggest nearest pediatric hospital that is close to you. After graduation, seek out those hospitals big enough to have a specialty in that area. Good luck! Go forth and do good things!

I agree with the above poster. I work in pediatric hem/onc and I love it, but I'm new to the specialty (did general peds before) and probably just not burnt out yet! :\
