Question about UCO nursing school

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hey,

Is anybody currently in UCO's nursing program? Would love to hear about it.

Specializes in Adolescent Psych, PICU.

I'm a senior in UCO's program--what do ya want to know? ;) Have you already applied?

Thanks for answering. I am trying to decide between UCO's BSN program and OSU-OKC's ADN program. No I have not applied yet and will not be able to do so until Oct of 08. I have applied to OSU and have a good chance of getting in. I am a little concerned about going to UCO because of my age. Is it mainly 18-20's ? Is acceptance pretty competitive? Have you been happy with the program? What hospitals are used for clinicals? and really anything else you care to add

Thanks for posting

I really like UCO's program because it is a good mix of clinicals and lectures, some program are heavy on one and light on the other it seems.

I'm going to be 34 years old next month :) No it's is not just 20 year olds, we have students in their 50's, just all ages. I am very happy with UCOs program.

I think all nursing schools are fairly competitive, but don't let that discourage you! I got in on my first try. UCO will look at your overall GPA, science GPA, TEAS test score, and 3 references.

Clinicals. I have been to Baptist, Presby, Children's, St Anthonys, SW Medical Center, Mercy, Deconess (sp?) gosh we have clinicals alllll over! They are good about placing you in clinicals as well as the time you request (we have day and evening clinicals for the most part) that you request which is nice. Right now for my critical care clinicals I am in the trauma ICU at Presby.

It is good that you are looking at schools now and finding out what is the best fit for you. Don't let your age worry you, like I said I am going to be 34 next month and I think I am at a great age and am doing great in school. I have 2 girls (9 and 5 yrs) and am married. We have a lot of married students, students with kids, students who work full time, part time and not at all.

I am also 34. I am married with 4 kiddos(12,9,7,5) I am glad to hear that I will not be the only one!!! Thanks for all the info on UCO. I am going on Thursday to talk. Now, I just need to decide BSN or ADN. Thanks again for posting.
