CNA to LPN school

U.S.A. Oklahoma

I am currently a CNA ( have been for 15yrs) and I plan on attending Indian Capital Vo-Tech LPN program hopefully next yr. I then plan to do RN transition on-line. Can anyone tell me what the starting pay is for an LPN and what the LPN responsibilities are in comparison to that of a CNA and a Med Aide? I know that the RN's do assesments and IV meds. And that some nursing homes even have Med Aides. I currenlty work in AR and I know it is different from state to state. I really want to know that if my experience as a CNA will be helpul during my schooling. Thank to all who respond.

This is only my opinion but the best nurses did some sort of healthcare first. My mom is an LPN and has been for 30 years. She works in a LTC center as a charge nurse. The starting pay is around $14-15/hr and she makes almost $18/hr.

As an LPN, she takes report, takes Dr orders, notes orders, gives shots, does treatments, coordinates aide assignments, and sends patients out to the hospital or does the transfer order when they come back. If the home doesnt have a CMA, the nurse does the med passes.

Your experience as a CNA will help out alot. You know how things run for the most part. You also know what it is like to be at the bottom of the totem pole. In my experience, the nurses who were once aides are the ones that will get in there and help when you are short handed. HTH and Good luck!!

yeah i agree..you can always tell who the nurses are that were a CNA 's
