Hondros RN program in Cincy? conditinal approbal??

Hi all i've ben an lpn for 2 yrs now, and since my hubby is getting ready to deploy to iraq again (this time for 15mo) it is giving me the oppurtunity to go back to nursing school to get my RN out of the way. I want a school i can get right into by this fall/winter so that i can finish by the end of next year or so. I have been looking into Hondros school of nursing in Mason, but noticed that they have a "conditional" approval..so what does that mean? if i start the school will i be able to take the nclex or will my degree be worthless? i'm supposed to get a call from the admissions lady on tues, but of couse im impatient and cant wait! lol...does anyone else on the boards go there or have graduated from there? I will be doing the LPN to RN part of the school. thanks!

It's my understanding that all new programs are given conditional approval until they can report graduation rates and NCLEX pass rates to the BON. We have conditional approval at our school too and no one has not been able to get a job yet - well except for the VA hospital apparently. But every other hospital in the immediate area is accepting our degree. what you may have a problem is transferring credits if you decide to pursue a BSN someday, even so, check directly with whatever school, employer etc you may be interested in.... well that's good. i guess my only other issue will be to find out if i'll be able to get an endorsement in another state too. since my husband is in the military it's imperative that i can transfer easily from state to state. especially because we move almost every 3 yrs. that's one reasy i love being a nurse you can get a job anywhere..lol...portability is importnant for an army wife! so if anyone knows if it will effect endorsing my license please let me know. i'm gonna call the BON tomorrow anyway and ask.

A conditional approval is giving for 1 of 2 things:

  1. the school is new
  2. the state went in, seen that there was some problems with the the curriculum or clinical time/places.

The school is still accepted, you can sit for boards, you can transfer to get your BSN. All things are still A-OK.

Once you've sat for your boards and past them another state can't say that you can't be a nurse because your school was on 'conditional' at the time that you spent there.

If I am not mistaken I think that Hondros falls under the RETS in dayton umbrella, if so they have already corrected the problems, and state should be there soon to re-evaluate and give them full approval!

I just checked and Hondros does have full approval however there not accredidated with the NLNAC. I'm looking into Hondros but i'm worried about credits transfering and everything since theres no NLNAC accredidation, anyone know if there going to get it?

With Rets you can do your RN right there and then go online to Indian Wesley for your BSN!

i did a little research on the boards here and apparently in order to get the NLN or CCNE acreditation there has to be a few classes that have graduated, passed nclex and gotten jobs in the area that they can review. There are some schools that do not require any other accreditation other than the BON approval when moving on for your BSN or Masters.

apparently not having NLN or CCNE accredittation will only affect you if you want to go into the military or work at the VA hosipital/military hospital. (though my hubby is military i hated working at the military hospital in texas...blah they paid crap for LVN's...phlebotomist made more than i did!) so i guess if you really only want an ASN degree and dont want to work at a federal instilation as an RN it wont really matter. they only other thing i'm gonna check on tomorrow is to make sure the BON has not had any complaints on the school and to ask the school what their pass rates were for these past two classes that have graduated and when to expect full approval from the BON vs. the new conditional approval since they are so new.

I'll post all my info tomorrow after i talk to both the BON and hondros rep.

I'm currently a student in the LPN program at Hondros. Please don't waste your money....

As of right now, the school has not graduated an RN class because it is still so new. The level of unorganization is ridiculous, and many of my fellow classmates are unhappy as well.

The kicker is right now, they do not accept federal financial aid. I had to get a Sallie Mae loan and it's not worth it.

You can PM me if you want more details....I just don't think the frustration of this school is worth it, personally.

well i talked to the OBN and they said that they are a new school and will be graduating it's first class next month. I am not planning on starting until OCT so i have plenty of time to change my mind if i need to. The OBN said that they have had NO complaints on Hondros and that the LPN program is fully approved and the RN is new so they have just given the conditional approval for the time being. I am going to go to the info session at hondros tomorrow for the rest of the information.

As far as financial aide goes, i'm paying out of pocket for this anyway since i dont qualify for financial aid so i'm not worried about that. I think the disorganization is normal for such a new school and my LPN school had TONS of teach turn over so i'm used to that as well. I still passed LPN school with a "B" average and my boards on the first try. So far that i can tell is that the school is new but there isnt anything that would make me worry about going there.

they also have agreements with university of phenonix online, Chamberlin college and a college in KY (cant remember the name) that will accept all the ASN credits for your BSN degree once you graduate so that was a plus in my opinion as well.

I think you get out of school what you put into it. Alot of nursing stuff is just plain old memorization and reading...the rest is hands on. i can tell you that a lot of crap i learned in LPN school didnt make any sense until i started working and i had a lot of on the job training.

I'm also still going to look into RETS since they also have an LPN to RN program but i've also heard good and bad things about that one as well. so we shall see.

I'm in the RN program at Hondros with an anticipated graduation date of June 15th. I've had fantastic clinicals, with my preceptorship in ICU. All of the instructors were great and really took the time to explain and give understanding to questions. The administration have always been very accomidating, with results in a timely manner.This is a new school, therefore, there will be a period of adjustment. However, this happens at any school. Overall my experience has been exceptional and I feel confident and prepared to sit for my NCLEX-RN.:nurse:
